Newborns are bundle of joy and need so much of attention and special care. You need to shop for a lot of things that are made especially for your newborn. There are some essentials that you need to keep handy, as soon as the baby arrives. We have prepared a list of essentials and categorized them so that you can get started with your shopping spree.
Clothing
Comfortable and soft clothes are a must in the list of essentials for newborn. Go for cotton fabric and dresses without any sequins & motifs. You should also try and avoid clothes with a lot of buttons because newborns would take anything and everything in their mouth! Some clothing types that you can go for are:
Onesies & Rompers: You can tug-in your kid in onesies, at any time of the day and at nights. You can go for full-sleeve press-up buttons onesies.
Caps, Gloves & Mittens: You can get such cute & colorful pair of caps, gloves & mittens for your kid at online stores. Until it is scorching heat outside, you will want to cover your lad with a bit warmer clothes.
Ethnic Wear: In festive occasions or special family occasions, you want your new born to dress as per the occasion. You should have trendy ethnic wear ready for such occasions. Again, keep it designer but without much frills & Zari work.
Woolen Wear: Kids can catch cold very easily which is why it important to keep warmer clothes ready for them. For rainy season and spring season, you want a bit warmer clothes for your newborn. Don’t forget to get a small woolen light-weight blanket.
Bath Time
Some babies look forward to their bath time (which again is like 2-3 times a day) whereas some would cry their lungs out as soon as they see water! Point is, you need right soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, etc for your newborn for their adventurous bath time!
Bathtub: You cannot expect to wash up your kid under a shower! You need a comfortable (small size) bath tub for your newborn. Go for a convertible bath tub because you can increase the tub size, as your baby grows.
Bath Towels: Do not share your kid’s towels with anyone else’s! These towels are custom made for newborns and should be kept like that. Go for a towel made of soft and absorbent fabric (cotton towels are my personal choice). Choose white color or any light color towel and go for a lint free material.
Baby wash, shampoo & conditioner: Whatever bathing essentials you use for your kid, ensure that they are paraben & chemical free. You do not want your baby to cry after each and every bath!
Baby Oil & Creams: You give a proper half an hour oil massage to your kid before bath and then you apply baby cream on their skin, after bath time. Use a brand that suits your newborn’s skin; start with a patch test of several brands and see what brand suits your baby’s skin the most.
Diapering
Diaper is one of the most essential products when you have a newborn in your house. You will need to give some thought to the kind of diaper you are going to use for the newborn as you will need a lot of them on a daily basis!
Cotton Nappies: Cotton nappies remain smooth on the skin of your newborn and do not give rash to the skin; however, they do not soak a lot of liquid, so you will need to constantly change the nappies (like 20 times a day!).
Disposable Diapers: You can go for a good brand disposable diaper as it can soak a lot of liquid and you can remain tension-free for a few hours. In fact, these are must when you plan to take your kid out for a few hours. They are a bit pricey and you actually cannot keep your lad covered with a diaper for a whole day.
Wet Wipes: It is important that you wipe your newborn’s intimate area with a soft wipe so that they don’t get a rash & feel irritated; in short, wet wipes are a must.
Diaper rash cream: Your paediatrician will suggest you to keep a rash cream handy and use it when it is absolutely necessary. Shop at firstcry an online shopping site for especially for kids. also use the promo codes & discount offers to get price cut on diapers.
Feeding Time
Switching between breastfeeding and bottle-feeding can be tricky for moms and kids likewise. You need a good food formula for your kid and right feeding bottle. Do some research, before buying baby feeding products.
Feeding Bottle: Go for bottles that come with anti-colic nipples because they ensure that your newborn does not swallow a lot of air during feeding. Also ensure that you get BPA free bottles that can tolerate high temperatures.
Bottle Cleaning Brush: You will need to wash your baby’s feeding bottle several times a day. Ensure that you get a brush that can really clean the bottle that too effortlessly.
Health & Hygiene
There are a few things that you will need, to maintain a proper hygiene factor around your kid.
Baby nail clippers: These nail clippers are extremely soft and will not hurt your baby’s finger tips, yet cut their nails. These clippers are custom-made for newborns.
Hand Sanitizer: You will definitely want to sanitize your kid’s hands, once they start crawling on floor.
Thermometer: You cannot use a regular mercury thermometer for your newborn. Go for a digital thermometer which is harmless for your kid.
