Have We Entered in An Era Where The Fittest Will Survive

For some, the introduction of a national lockdown may resemble that of a tyrannical ruling whereby humans are ordered to remain shackled up for months on end, animals oppressed in cages, each protracted moment eating away at our sanity, the finish line completely out of sight. This is no dictatorship for the weak-willed. World leaders attempt to restore hope with their positive assertions.

‘There’s light at the end of the tunnel’, They say.

Though they refuse to tell us how long the tunnel stretches for. No one knows what lies behind their brave masquerades as they feed us these distorted truths. To the authorities: take off your rose-tinted glasses, leave the fantasies behind, and just take a moment to observe what lies right before us. Perhaps then, the false optimists amongst you will finally face up to the harsh realities of this situation. It is though we are prisoners being wrongly convicted for a crime we didn’t commit.

We begin to dwell on our pasts. The doctor who devoted their whole life to saving others being shuffled off this mortal coil in an instant. The cancer patient who was beginning to embark on the road to recovery now being denied of any further treatment.

The teacher who won’t make it alive to tell the story of Archimedes’ ‘Eureka!’ moment or the falling of Newton’s apple. As innocent human beings, what wrongdoings have we committed to be considered worthy of withstanding these intolerable hardships?

Humans have been the driving force behind change and innovation for seemingly forever. From antibiotics to robots, there is still much more hope for our future. Yet, we are being consumed by this insidious, raging monster, a monster whose sole purpose is to procreate inside of us and deprive our bodies of all its life-sustaining nutrients. So possessed by its sadistic motives, and completely oblivious to the immense accomplishments of humankind over the years, the creature obliterates hundreds of thousands of innocent mortals impenitently, still waiting to be satiated. The once vivacious faces have blanched, Now ashen. Completely lifeless.

This is no dictatorship for the weak-willed.

Recognizably, humankind have displayed it all as we have powered through some of the toughest moments in history. The cavemen’s strength as they battled against the piercing winds of the menacingly cold winters, somehow making it out alive more fierce than before. And the steadfastness of the few innocent Jewish men and women who managed to escape the wrath of Hitler’s harrowing Auschwitz exterminations. How about the courage of those speaking out for the first time as they pioneered the 20th century anti-apartheid movement? Along with the bravery of the WWII soldiers, sacrificing their lives on the front line as they toiled with all their might for the sake of their country.

We’ve endured so much before so what’s stopping us now?

Now, more than ever before, humans have become alienated to the ‘glass half empty’ mindset, instead of adopting the spirit of fraternity, resolve, and sheer optimism. Though separated by distance, the connections between individuals across the globe have strengthened extensively. Much like the sense of camaraderie amongst civilians facing war, we have all come together to find ways to adapt to the ‘new normal’. Now we resort to fist-bumps instead of handshakes, perspire profusely as we test our fitness levels with another home workout and tune in online to experience the magic of live concerts from the comfort of our own homes.

As the butterfly slowly starts to emerge from its cocoon, enemies become friends, dreams now realities, we feel liberated as we gradually return to the wild, no longer cooped up in our abodes. Who knows what is ahead of us, take and cherish each day as it comes. Darwinian evolution ensures that only the fittest will survive. But we can be hopeful: perhaps the day will soon come when we will have completely decimated this brute to mere smithereens. This is no dictatorship for the weak-willed.

Like warriors, we must hold our heads up high. We will not be defeated.

Very well articulated thoughts. With hope we face each day. Taking each day at a time is the best way to not expect anything for tomorrow. This is once in a lifetime situation where we cannot fall back.on previous generations to look up to for advice or for any suggestions. We all sail in the same boat right now. Nature will hopefully sort it out soon.

In today’s circumstances the best thing we can and should do is take each day at a time and make the best out of it. This pandemic situation has taught us life’s reality that nothing is permanent. We can control only our present.

I must say Urvashi has beautifully penned down her thoughts. Best wishes for her future!!

Beautifully written post. Decision to lockdown a nation of 1 billion plus is a difficult one, something like caught between rock and hard place. But humans are superior animals. We can, at least some of us, can understand intent and try to adapt and move on. There are technologies to help us move on. Obvious question will be what will happen to those who don’t have access to technology. This is a difficult question. We must work to make available technology to all, so that next disaster as it strikes, we don’t have to debate about one additional issue. Humans always remain in the prism of mind body complex. We may boast about our physical freedom, but when body demands we listen. I guess we shall adapt.

A very thoughtful post! Indeed, despite the turbulent and divisive times in which we currently live, such once-in-a-lifetime events can unify us against a common objective – let’s hope that the positive changes that you note, ‘fraternity’ and ‘optimism’, can become part of our political and societal landscape. An entertaining and insightful read!

Very well written, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Let’s all live each day beautifully , accept all the challenges with good spirit & enjoy every minute of our precious life!!!

Great post, Urvashi and Thanks for sharing this post.
Cherish each day and stay with your family. Humans indeed are the driving force behind any change and we are again hoping for a positive change to come. With hope and prayers by our side lets live each day happily.

Humanity has always battled disease throughout history. Remember the ‘Black Death’ of England – the great plague where no house went unscathed? Just as we won over other epidemics like cholera, the Spanish flu, the sweating sickness, small pox, we shall win against this Coronavirus too. After all, life must go on no matter what happens! In the mean time, keep writing!

Well said Urvashi , though we are under the fold of uncertain future, as a human we never give up being well aware of the Darwin’s theory we believe in hopes which are much stronger than anything. Insightful post.

A nicely written motivating article Urvashi. We have no other choice but to accept this situation and move on. And, that’s the positivity. I know human, the greatest creation of God, will win over this as well.

Well, yes it is that time where only fittest will survive but we need to give our 100% like the warrior.

Very well articulated, thanks for sharing your thoughts about the whole new scenario, Urvashi. We are humans and if we look at the positive and brighter side we tend to see magic happening, it’s our only hope. Loved reading it!
