Blend of Both, Opposites Attract, Great Minds Think Alike!

“Ek din Rajkumar aayega, ghodi par baitha ke le jayega” these words of my granny echoed in my ears when I was growing.

In the early years of childhood, I did not understand much what these lines meant and appeared to be a fairy tale, never ever thought that this Rajkumar was addressed to my would be husband. When I started understanding the word, day dreaming started and often dreamt of a man descending on a white horse and riding me back in filmy andaaz. In teens, we dream a lot about guys, effect of love stories showed in movies…I was no exception. Being an introvert, I shared less and was much busy in daydreaming and each dream manifested a new hope for the forthcoming life with the Man of my dreams.

My Man was an ideal man, a great hero, tall, handsome and tan…the after effect of Mills & Boon…and my ideal hero, Amitabh Bachchan…in my tender age, was not much aware that he was near to my Pa’s age.

In early youth, we are far off from reality and the dreams flare up the desire.

“Hey, you are so beautiful…your eyes, lips, cheekbone are awesome. Tumhaari aankhon main doobne ka mann karta hai.” He tried to hold me tight against him and his eyes were watching me from top to bottom…I was mesmerized by his touch simultaneously, an unknown fear gripped me and I tried to loosen his grip.

“You are now mine…I have all the entity to touch you and you have the freedom to touch me…drop all your fears. Seven vows exchanged and we both belong to each other.” M said.

“I agree but I am not comfortable now, give me some time.” I said.

“Ok, done My Love.” M said.

Next morning, M arrived with tea on bed. I had already seen him but tried to feign keeping my eyes closed, pretending to be in deep sleep.

He came close to me and bit my earlobes and said, “Wake up my princess and give me a hug.” He took me in his arms.

His touch turned me crimson and I gave a small peck on his cheek…and watched the ecstasy of love illustrating on his face.

“Mohtarma, chai pijiye meri haathon ka aur bataiye kaisi banni hai.”

And very lovingly, his hands treated me with tea and I could not hold myself praising him. I praised him profusely, being overgenerous.

I tried to get down from the bed, he stopped me and said “Yeh nazuk kadam meri haathon main achche lagenge.” And within seconds, he was carrying me in his arms and left in the bath tub.

“Finish your chores fast, Banda, aapki khidmat main haazir hain.” M said.

After bath, when I stepped in my room, I saw my whole set of clothes were spread on hanger.

His choice was mind-blowing…I loved the dress presented by him.

When I finished draping, someone caught me by my waist and I shrieked in fear. He pulled me on bed and I was numb. It was unexpected one but I was loving the closeness.

My happiness knew no bounds and I thanked my luck and I pinched myself to find whether it was a reality or a beautiful dream.

I was out of my Fantasy date reverie and huge crowd was standing in front of my room banging on the door.

“Haldi ka time ho gaya, bahar aao. Shubh Muhurat hai.” My cousins and aunt said.

“Ladki busy in dreams with Jeejajee.” Cousins said in unison.

The day, I stepped in my in-laws house, the reaction was opposite of what I had dreamt in my teens and after getting engaged.

On the first night, he arrived very late in room and said, “Dear, let’s sleep, I am tired after so hectic rituals. We will talk tomorrow”

Early morning, I got up to get ready and fetch tea for my hubby as explained by my Mom and married cousins.

I wore my favourites and arrived with a tray laden with tea and dry fruits.

“Chai is ready, Darling.”

“Wait, getting up soon.”

Tea got cold in hot summers but he was still sleeping…unexpected shock on the second day after marriage.

No compliments received for my outfit nor much words were exchanged…he hadn’t touched me within 48 hours.

I thought, is something wrong with him. I tried to match his attributes with the movies hero or my dream…he was just the opposite.

My dream of Rajkumar shattered and I accepted the bitter truth of marriage.

As years passed, tremendous positive changes came within him and my dream started getting fulfilled.

After spending few years together, my patience started getting rewards.

Now the reality is,

  • Every morning, I get tea prepared by hubby.
  • Every Sunday, he cooks and serves me first.
  • When I am not in a mood to load washing machines, he does for me.
  • He helps in maintaining home.

Ten years, I was proactive in my early years of marriage…after that he started sharing the load and now after three decades, he offloaded me with few responsibilities.

The Fantasy date that I saw before and last on Haldi day is now fulfilled after walking together for three decades.

This year, he surprised me with a message, “Will You Be My Valentine?”

My eyes turned moist and I could not utter a word.

Through these years, we have blended and are a sound mixture of both, Opposites Attract, Great Minds think Alike.

Are wah.. I loved the starting line-exactly what fantasies. .. your post really evoked that feeling of teenage days… any handsome hunk and dreaming of that boy… what a lovely post. .a mix of two prompts.

Omg…lovely..blending of two posts and it’s really beautiful you are blessed my dear..I used to listen to O mere “sapnon ke saudagar”it was my fantasy..sach mein rajkumar aata hai Kya????love your post.

That’s a really sweet post! I really liked the description of your fantast date, it would have been interesting to read a full story on that theme.

One of the most beautiful articles I read lately. We get carried away by the Bollywood movies and create a picture in our minds of Mr. Perfect riding on a horse but when reality strikes us, we come out of our fantasy trance. Its all about the compatibility and mutual trust which makes the institution of marriage successful. A lovely read.

It’s beautiful. It’s only when the relationship is nurtured with great care, love and patience, one receives its sweetest fruits. It’s amazing how you have shared a contrast of dreams and reality.

Wow what a lovely relationship and I loved each and every word of it. I love the way you had shared the chemistry between both. and it’s really great that he cares a lot for you and share lots of responsibilities with you. #Vdayblogtrain

36 turned 63 so apt. Expectations in marriages are huge and easily tainted, however with time, most realize that it grows beautiful with time. Three decades of togetherness is #marriagegoals. Honest to core post Ila.

Honestly, I think we all end up training our spouses to be like how we would like them to be. 🙂 I loved reading the story of your marriage. It gives hope and shows that love is something that is cultivated over time.

Ila, such a true and honest write-up. Dheere dheere hi sahi your efforts paid off. Mutual trust, compatibility and readiness to bring some changes in ourselves is the secret of marriage.

Patience pays and through my post, I want to share the message that don’t crib, dreams are better in dreams but if the desire stands through roller coaster ride, it multiplies with time.

I can only say that I really aspire for such a relationship, where even after 30 years of marriage such understanding and excitement remains.

Ohh Yes!!!! marriage and love is a journey.. the longer the travel the better we get to know our companion. Wonderful reality.

What I like in your post is your honesty. We are day dream and when reality strikes we are dumbstruck. You post has hope, experience and of all love and respect.

Cheers

A little bit here and there but my dream shattered and soon started getting realised too, Ila. We often romanticise marriage after seeing movies, reading books and from the stories we hear and the reality is usually different. Not always disappointing, but different. Its so sweet that he sends you lovey-dovey messages now and does thoughtful stuff for you. 🙂

Love and affection takes time to come in a marriage, especially if it is an arranged one. Glad that your dreams came true and you both found companionship in each other. Loved the honesty with which you wrote the blog.

I really loved your beautiful take on the prompt Ila. Its so nice to find our soulmate in the husband, Even if it takes 3 decades. Very well captured with words!
